What's happening

This resolution honors David Hildebrand for being named Coach of the Year by the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Why it matters

  1. Highlights the broader impact of collegiate coaching. By honoring David Hildebrand, the resolution underscores how coaches contribute not only to athletic success but also to the personal development, character, and sportsmanship of student-athletes.

  2. Recognizes achievement in non-traditional athletic contexts. The award spotlights the accomplishments of a coach at a specialized institution (FIT), demonstrating that athletic excellence and leadership can thrive and be celebrated even in schools primarily known for arts, design, and technology.

  3. Promotes the value of inclusive and diverse athletic programs. Hildebrand’s work with a range of swimmers—children, adults, collegiate, and masters athletes—alongside his engagement with Team New York Aquatics, signals an appreciation for expanding access and support in sports across different communities.

  4. Emphasizes the multifaceted role of educators and mentors. The resolution draws attention to Hildebrand’s influence beyond the pool, including his roles as author and model, reflecting the importance of recognizing leaders who inspire students in a variety of ways both inside and outside traditional athletic environments.
