This resolution urges the Governor to proclaim May 2018 as High Blood Pressure Education Month in New York State.
Why it matters
Raises public awareness about high blood pressure, a leading risk factor for heart disease and stroke, by formally recognizing its importance at the state level. This can help mobilize community organizations, health departments, and other stakeholders to prioritize education and prevention efforts.
Aligns New York State with national health campaigns, potentially increasing access to educational resources, outreach programs, and funding opportunities tied to National High Blood Pressure Education Month.
Encourages local, state, and national collaboration on prevention and control activities, which may lead to broader initiatives and policy changes aimed at reducing the prevalence and impact of high blood pressure among New Yorkers.
