What's happening

This resolution honors Dennis Michael O'Mara posthumously for 28 years of dedicated service to the Wallkill Central School District Board of Education.

Why it matters

  1. Highlights the impact of long-term volunteer leadership. By recognizing Dennis Michael O'Mara’s 28 years of service, the resolution underscores how sustained commitment from community members can shape the quality and direction of local education, influencing generations of students and families.

  2. Emphasizes the value of inclusivity and overcoming adversity. O'Mara’s achievements despite physical challenges (living with Spina Bifida) serve as an example of perseverance and inclusivity, potentially inspiring others with disabilities to pursue leadership and service roles.

  3. Illustrates the breadth of community involvement. The resolution details O'Mara’s multifaceted contributions—not only on the school board (including as President and committee chair) but also in youth sports, the library, and civic events—demonstrating how educational leaders often play vital roles across local institutions.

  4. Strengthens community identity and memory. By formally honoring O'Mara posthumously, the resolution helps preserve local history, reinforces community values, and provides a public example of civic virtue for others to emulate.
