Honor Scholar-Athlete Gerard O'Reilly

2018 Senior Scholar-Athlete WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with its long-standing traditions, to honor the achievements of its young citizens and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and accomplishments exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Gerard O'Reilly upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association as a 2018 Senior Scholar-Athlete; this momentous occasion was celebrated with a Breakfast on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at Kuhl's Highland House, Middletown, New York; and WHEREAS, Academically and athletically, Gerard O'Reilly has distinguished himself as a young man of superlative ability, talent, and maturity, establishing standards of excellence and achievement, purposefulness of life, and responsibility rarely achieved in youthful years; and WHEREAS, A student at George F. Baker High School, Gerard O'Reilly has a 93.72 GPA and is ranked 4th in his class; he is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council and Boy Scouts; and WHEREAS, An exceptional athlete, Gerard O'Reilly served as Captain of the soccer team; and WHEREAS, After graduating from high school, Gerard O'Reilly plans to major in nursing at either SUNY Binghamton or the University of South Carolina; and WHEREAS, An Eagle Scout, Gerard O'Reilly gives tirelessly of his time and energies volunteering at the Sloatsburg food pantry and serves as a peer tutor; and WHEREAS, An outstanding role model for his classmates, Gerard O'Reilly has brought honor to his family, school, and community; and WHEREAS, Gerard O'Reilly may stand with pride in his achievements, experiencing the satisfaction of his labors and the joy of his accomplishments, eager to face the challenge of new experiences as he continues his education; and WHEREAS, Gerard O'Reilly represents the potential inherent in our most precious resource, our youth; this Legislative Body is pleased to honor this young man, recognizing his achievements and the promise of his future; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to honor Gerard O'Reilly upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association as a 2018 Senior Scholar-Athlete, and to wish him well in his future endeavors; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Gerard O'Reilly.
