What's happening

This resolution commends the Burn Center at Westchester Medical Center for its service and recognizes National Burn Awareness Week.

Why it matters

  1. Highlights the Burn Center’s unique regional role. As the only specialized burn facility between New York City and the Canadian border in Eastern New York, the Center fills a critical gap for advanced burn care, impacting survival and recovery prospects for hundreds annually.

  2. Emphasizes comprehensive, patient-centered care. The Center’s integrated approach—including intensive care, rehabilitation, and attention to physical, emotional, and social needs—reflects a holistic model designed to improve long-term outcomes for burn victims.

  3. Recognizes public health and prevention efforts. By aligning with National Burn Awareness Week, the resolution underscores the importance of public education and coordinated prevention initiatives, especially for high-risk groups like children and seniors.

  4. Supports innovation and broader wound treatment. The Center’s role as a hub for advanced therapies and hyperbaric treatment extends its impact beyond burns, benefiting patients with complex wounds and serving as a resource for the wider healthcare community.
