What's happening

This resolution urges Governor Cuomo to proclaim September 25, 2018, as Voter Registration Day in New York State.

Why it matters

  1. Promoting voter participation. By urging an official Voter Registration Day, the resolution aims to raise awareness about the importance of registering to vote, potentially increasing voter turnout and engagement in future elections.

  2. Addressing barriers to voting. The resolution acknowledges that millions of Americans are unable to vote each year due to missed registration deadlines or lack of awareness, and seeks to address these gaps by supporting coordinated education and outreach efforts.

  3. Fostering civic unity and engagement. Endorsing a day dedicated to voter registration highlights the value of civic participation and encourages New Yorkers to take an active role in democracy, regardless of political differences.

  4. Leveraging technology and partnerships. The resolution supports modern, collaborative approaches—including technology and volunteer networks—to make registering, checking registration status, and learning about voting options more accessible for all eligible residents.
