What's happening
This resolution urges Governor Cuomo to proclaim May 2, 2017 as 10th Mountain Division and Fort Drum Day in New York.
Why it matters
Highlights the dual importance of Fort Drum. The resolution recognizes Fort Drum not only as a major military asset contributing to national security, but also as the largest employer in Northern New York, with significant economic impact on the region.
Honors military service and sacrifice. It specifically acknowledges the 10th Mountain Division’s history of deployments, their pivotal roles in U.S. military operations since 9/11, and the loss of over 300 division members in the fight against global terrorism.
Promotes public awareness and community connection. By urging the Governor to proclaim a dedicated day, the resolution aims to educate the public and lawmakers about the sacrifices of service members and foster a greater sense of appreciation for military families as part of the broader New York community.
Reinforces ongoing support for military readiness. The resolution emphasizes Fort Drum’s enduring role in ensuring military preparedness, underlining its continued relevance to both state and national defense priorities.
