What's happening

This resolution urges Governor Cuomo to declare March 2017 as Colon Cancer Awareness Month in New York State.

Why it matters

  1. Raising colon cancer awareness. can lead to earlier detection, which is crucial since colon cancer is often more treatable in its early stages. A statewide awareness month could encourage more people to get screened and learn about risk factors.

  2. Supporting patients and families. through increased public attention can reduce stigma, provide emotional support, and connect those affected with resources, advocacy groups, and survivors.

  3. Aligning New York with national efforts. boosts the impact of education campaigns and fundraising, creating a unified message that may attract more funding and participation in research and prevention activities.

  4. Prompting government action. by urging the governor to issue a formal proclamation highlights the importance of public health initiatives and may stimulate additional state-level programs or funding for colon cancer prevention and treatment.
