What's happening

This resolution honors McCarrick's Dairy for its decades of service and contributions to the Rocky Point, New York community.

Why it matters

  1. Highlights the economic and social role of local, family-run businesses. underscoring how McCarrick’s Dairy provided employment to hundreds of community members (including many youths’ first jobs) and served as a central gathering place for the neighborhood.

  2. Acknowledges immigrant contributions to American communities. the resolution traces the origins of McCarrick’s Dairy back to Irish immigrants who sought the American dream, reflecting broader themes of immigrant entrepreneurship and integration.

  3. Emphasizes the broader impact of small business closures. not just as an economic loss, but as an end to a source of tradition, local identity, and community service, including charitable giving and cultural event organizing (like the St. Patrick’s Day Parade).

  4. Serves as a public recognition of local heritage. by officially honoring the McCarrick family, the resolution helps preserve community memory as the business closes, and may inspire ongoing appreciation for small businesses’ long-term contributions.
