What's happening
This resolution urges New York’s Congressional delegation to support the Deborah Sampson Act, which expands services for women veterans.
Why it matters
Addresses gaps in VA care for women. By urging support for the Deborah Sampson Act, the resolution highlights unmet needs like gender-specific healthcare providers, mental health resources, and services tailored for women veterans—who often face unique health and social challenges compared to men.
Targets vulnerable women veterans. The Act would expand grants and legal support for low-income and at-risk women veterans, aiming to reduce rates of homelessness, unemployment, and lack of access to healthcare among this growing population.
Improves data and accountability. By mandating better collection and analysis of data on women and minority veterans, the legislation would help the VA identify service gaps and make more informed policy decisions for these underrepresented groups.
Recognizes New York’s significant population of women veterans. With over 65,000 women veterans in New York, the resolution underscores the importance of federal action in directly benefiting a sizable and often underserved group within the state.
