What's happening

This resolution commends James Bertolone on his retirement after over 40 years of dedicated service to the American Postal Worker's Union Local 215.

Why it matters

  1. Highlights the long-term impact of union leadership. By acknowledging over 40 years of service, the resolution draws attention to the vital role that sustained union leadership plays in protecting workers’ rights and shaping labor policy at local and regional levels.

  2. Underscores influence beyond a single union. James Bertolone’s leadership extended to representing tens of thousands of workers across many unions, demonstrating how one individual can amplify worker advocacy beyond their original organization and affect broader labor movements.

  3. Connects labor activism to community development. The recognition of Bertolone’s work with organizations like United Way and workforce development institutes shows the intertwined nature of labor leadership and broader community well-being, highlighting the positive ripple effects that union leaders can have on social services and economic growth.

  4. Celebrates mentorship and public discourse. By noting Bertolone’s ongoing contributions through writing and board service, the resolution illustrates the importance of knowledge-sharing and thought leadership in strengthening both the labor movement and civic life.
