What's happening
This resolution urges Governor Cuomo to proclaim February 3, 2017, as Wear Red for Women Day in New York to raise awareness of women's heart disease.
Why it matters
Raises awareness of women's heart disease, which is often underrecognized. The resolution spotlights that most women do not realize heart disease is their leading cause of death, aiming to close this knowledge gap and encourage preventive action.
Promotes public education and empowerment. By urging participation in the Go Red For Women campaign, the resolution supports efforts to provide women with vital information on healthy habits, risk factor reduction, and early detection strategies.
Encourages statewide solidarity and visibility. Designating a specific day for wearing red helps foster a sense of community and draws public attention to heart health issues unique to women, potentially mobilizing broader support for research and advocacy.
Highlights the need for ongoing research and funding. The resolution underscores the importance of donations and research funding, which are critical for developing new treatments and saving lives affected by cardiovascular diseases among women.
