What's happening
This resolution urges the Governor to declare Summer 2017 as Small Business Summer in New York, recognizing small businesses' vital role in tourism and local economies.
Why it matters
Highlights Small Businesses’ Central Role in Tourism. By linking the recognition to tourism, the resolution underscores how small businesses are not just local vendors but essential drivers of one of New York’s largest employment sectors, influencing job creation and statewide economic growth.
Spotlights Economic Impact and Diversity. The resolution draws attention to the scale and diversity of small businesses—97% of all businesses in NY, including many minority- and women-owned enterprises—emphasizing their broad contributions to tax revenue, innovation, and community character.
Encourages Direct Community and Consumer Support. By urging New Yorkers and visitors to patronize small businesses, the resolution aims to channel seasonal consumer spending toward local enterprises, potentially boosting their visibility, revenues, and long-term viability during a peak period for tourism.
