What's happening

This resolution urges Governor Cuomo to declare February 5-11, 2018, as Nonprofit Infrastructure Week in New York State.

Why it matters

  1. Highlights the economic and social significance of nonprofits. The resolution underscores that nonprofit human services organizations are not only vital to community well-being but also make up a substantial part of New York’s workforce and economy.

  2. Draws attention to funding and infrastructure challenges. It points out that while operating costs for nonprofits have increased, their funding has not kept pace, creating pressures that could undermine their ability to serve vulnerable populations.

  3. Connects infrastructure to service quality and health outcomes. By stating that strong infrastructure leads to better program quality and resilience—especially as New York shifts to value-based health care—the resolution frames infrastructure investment as crucial for long-term effectiveness.

  4. Aims to build public and political support for nonprofits. By officially recognizing Nonprofit Infrastructure Week, the resolution seeks to raise awareness, galvanize support, and potentially lay the groundwork for future policy action or funding directed at strengthening the nonprofit sector.
