What's happening

This resolution allocates state funds for 2017-18 to various organizations and agencies for drug, violence, and crime prevention, domestic violence support, legal services, and equipment enhancements, and amends previous years' grantee lists.

Why it matters

  1. Expands and updates state funding for a wide range of public safety, legal aid, and victim support programs. , directing resources to specific local law enforcement agencies, community organizations, victim services, legal assistance groups, and emergency services across New York State. This broadens the reach of support, potentially improving both urban and rural access to critical services.

  2. Enables targeted investments in domestic violence prevention, intervention, and legal services. by directly funding organizations that provide shelter, counseling, legal representation, and advocacy for victims and veterans, which may lead to more comprehensive support networks and more timely assistance for vulnerable populations.

  3. Directs funds toward equipment and technology upgrades for first responders and law enforcement. , potentially improving their capacity to respond to emergencies, prevent crime, and handle drug and violence-related incidents more effectively. This could enhance both community safety and operational efficiency.

  4. Amends previous years’ grant allocations to correct, update, or add new recipients. , which ensures that funding keeps pace with changing needs and priorities, addresses gaps from prior appropriations, and allows for flexibility in supporting new or emerging community initiatives.
