What's happening
This bill designates the interchange of NY State Thruway routes 87/287 in Hillburn as the "Thurgood Marshall Interchange."
Why it matters
Honors Thurgood Marshall’s Legacy. Naming a major highway interchange after Thurgood Marshall publicly acknowledges his historic contributions to civil rights and the U.S. Supreme Court, promoting awareness of his impact among travelers and the local community.
Ceremonial Designation Only. The change is symbolic—the official name of the interchange remains unchanged in legal and logistical terms, which means there will be no impact on addresses, maps, or commercial operations.
Public Recognition and Education. The required signage ensures that people passing through the area are reminded of Marshall’s legacy, potentially prompting curiosity and education about his role in advancing justice and equality in America.
