What's happening
This bill requires the Division of Veterans' Affairs website to include contact information for New York State veterans' homes in its healthcare fact sheet.
Why it matters
Improves Access to State Resources. By requiring the inclusion of New York State veterans' homes contact information, the bill makes it easier for veterans and their families to directly connect with state-operated long-term care facilities, not just federal VA resources.
Helps Veterans Make Informed Choices. The expanded fact sheet presents a fuller picture of available healthcare options, empowering veterans to evaluate both federal and state services when deciding where to seek care.
Addresses Gaps in Awareness. Many veterans may not be aware that New York operates its own veterans’ homes; this change can help bridge informational gaps and potentially increase utilization of state-supported facilities.
Promotes Transparency and Accountability. Mandating annual updates ensures that the information remains current, reducing the risk of outdated contacts and helping veterans avoid frustration or missed opportunities for care.
