What's happening
This bill requires New York to create a veterans-only jobs website and study employment barriers for veterans and their families.
Why it matters
Creates a dedicated job platform for veterans, caregivers, and immediate family members of disabled and active duty military in New York, providing a centralized and exclusive resource to help these groups find tailored employment opportunities.
Requires that the job listings on this website are unique and not posted elsewhere, ensuring that those eligible have first and potentially exclusive access to certain jobs, which may increase the chances of employment for veterans and their families.
Mandates a recurring, in-depth government study of employment challenges faced by veterans, caregivers, and military families—including unemployment rates and employment barriers—and requires public reporting and recommendations, which could drive future policy changes and resource allocation.
Aims to improve transparency and accountability by publishing both the jobs website and periodic employment studies online, making it easier for stakeholders to track progress and advocate for further improvements.
