Title of bill
An act to amend the mental hygiene law, in relation to a family support and recovery services program; and providing for the repeal of such provisions upon the expiration thereof
Purpose
This bill creates a family support and recovery services program.
Summary of provisions
Section 1: amends the mental hygiene law by adding a new section, 19.18-b, that instructs the commissioner to develop a family support and recovery services program.
Section 2: is the enacting clause
Justification
The Senate's Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction have identified that a lack of treatment options and long wait times to enter programs for opioid related addiction are common issues throughout the state.
This program would provide treatment and housing placement services, employment support, peer-to-peer support groups, and transportation assistance. The duration of these services would expand during inpatient treatment, outpatient treatment, and up to twelve months after completion of treatment programs.
By utilizing proven techniques and deploying wrap around services, this program would aid those suffering from opioid related addiction and put them on the path of recovery.
