What's happening
This bill expands Tarrytown's residential parking permit system to include the southerly side of Main Street between White Street and Windle Park.
Why it matters
Expanding the permit system to the southerly side of Main Street means more residents will have prioritized access to parking in a busy part of Tarrytown, which may help alleviate parking challenges for those living near downtown.
By including this stretch of Main Street in the permit program, the bill could help discourage non-residents and commuters from taking up limited parking spaces, making it easier for local residents to park near their homes.
The change could impact local businesses and visitors, as fewer unrestricted parking spaces may be available for non-permit holders, potentially shifting short-term parking patterns and increasing demand for alternative parking solutions.

Title of bill
An act to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to the residential parking permit system in the village of Tarrytown
Purpose or general idea of bill
This legislation will allow a small section of a street to be included in the residential parking system in the village Tarrytown.
Summary of provisions
Section 1 of the bill amends vehicle and traffic law section 1640-f(2), as amended by chapter 419 of the laws of 1999, to provide that the resi- dential parking permit system shall also apply on the southerly side of Main Street between White Street and Windle Park.
Section 2 is the effective date.
Justification
A residential parking permit system near the Metro North train station in the Village of Tarrytown has been in effect since 1998.The Tarrytown train station attracts a large number of commuters and travelers from outside of the village. The station generates significant traffic and congestion and while there are public lots and off-street parking areas, commuters and passengers park on local streets adjoining the station. This small section of Main Street between White Street and Windle Street is a residential neighborhood with 5 homes, with all of which are 1- 4 family homes. This legislation would expand the current parking permit system by a total of seven parking spaces. These homes are located near the train station; all but one has no off-street parking. Accordingly, residents of this small section of Main Street are unable to find park- ing near their homes.
The additional burden of commuter parking has resulted in an increase in traffic hazards, congestion and air and noise pollution. In addition, the overflow of commuter parking on the residential streets poses a hazard to residents and pedestrians in the area. A residential parking permit system in this small area on Main Street between. White Street and Windle Street will help address these issues.
