What's happening

This bill designates the bridge on Corona Avenue in Hempstead, Nassau County, as the "Firefighter/EMT Michael J. Field Memorial Bridge."

Why it matters

  1. Honors Local Heroism. Dedicating the bridge in honor of Firefighter/EMT Michael J. Field formally recognizes his service and sacrifice, reinforcing the value placed on first responders within the community.

  2. Community Identity and Remembrance. The ceremonial naming serves as a lasting reminder to residents and passersby of Michael J. Field's contributions, helping to preserve his legacy and foster a sense of shared local history.

  3. No Impact on Navigation or Official Records. The bill specifies that the bridge’s official name will not change in state records or navigation systems, minimizing confusion for drivers, emergency services, and businesses that rely on consistent geographic naming.
