What's happening
This bill creates a grant program to provide up to $10,000 in financial relief to small farms hit by natural disasters.
Why it matters
Targets support to the smallest farms. The program is limited to farms with annual sales of $100,000 or less, meaning it focuses on helping the most financially vulnerable agricultural producers rather than larger agribusinesses.
Specifically aids crop recovery. Funds can only be used for purchasing and replanting crops destroyed by natural disasters, ensuring that relief directly supports getting farms back into production, rather than for general or unrelated expenses.
Relief amount is flexible but capped. The grant amount is determined based on actual need, up to a maximum of $10,000, allowing for tailored assistance while preventing over-allocation of limited resources.
Dependent on state funding availability. Grants are only distributed if there are sufficient appropriations or funds, which means access to relief may fluctuate from year to year based on state budget decisions or external funding sources.
