What's happening

This bill requires a study and report on wages of aides to the developmentally disabled and sets a process to establish a base wage.

Why it matters

  1. Creates a data-driven approach. to setting wages for aides to the developmentally disabled, ensuring future wage decisions are informed by actual information about pay, education, and experience levels across the state.

  2. Links wage increases to Medicaid funding,. which could directly impact the financial stability of organizations providing care and potentially improve job quality for aides by making higher wages feasible.

  3. Establishes a timeline and accountability. by requiring a published report and a specific deadline for setting a new base wage, increasing transparency and pressure on state officials to act.

  4. Could address workforce shortages and turnover. in the field by potentially raising base pay, making these critical jobs more attractive and improving continuity of care for people with developmental disabilities.
