What's happening
This bill directs the MTA to rename two Brooklyn subway stations to include "Medgar Evers College" in their names.
Why it matters
Strengthens community identity. Renaming these subway stations to include "Medgar Evers College" highlights the presence and significance of the college, reinforcing local pride and recognizing its contributions to Brooklyn’s cultural and educational landscape.
Improves wayfinding for students and visitors. Updating all official MTA materials—signs, maps, and more—helps students, prospective students, and visitors more easily locate the college, potentially increasing accessibility and enrollment.
Honors Medgar Evers’ legacy. Associating a major public transit location with Medgar Evers College further memorializes the civil rights leader, raising awareness of his historical impact among everyday commuters and the broader public.
