What's happening

This bill limits the sale of assault weapon ammunition to twice the weapon's capacity every 120 days and makes violations a felony.

Why it matters

  1. Directly targets the frequency and quantity of assault weapon ammunition purchases. , aiming to reduce stockpiling and potentially illegal resale by restricting buyers to only twice the weapon’s capacity every 120 days.

  2. Connects ammunition sales to weapon registration. , meaning only ammunition for registered assault weapons can be purchased, increasing the traceability of both weapons and their corresponding ammunition.

  3. Escalates the legal consequences for non-compliance. , making violations a class E felony, which could deter both individuals and dealers from attempting to circumvent the restriction and may result in significant penalties.

  4. Could impact both gun owners and retailers. , requiring new tracking and record-keeping systems to monitor purchases over time, possibly affecting the operations of ammunition dealers and individuals’ purchasing habits.
