What's happening
This bill prevents employers from being charged for unemployment benefits paid to workers replaced due to another employee’s workers’ compensation reinstatement.
Why it matters
Protects employers from increased unemployment insurance costs. when they are required to let go of a worker in order to reinstate an employee returning from workers’ compensation leave, helping employers avoid penalties for complying with legal reinstatement obligations.
Shifts the cost of unemployment benefits in these specific cases to the state’s general unemployment fund. , rather than the employer’s individual experience rating, potentially stabilizing or lowering future unemployment insurance contribution rates for affected employers.
Encourages employers to comply with workers’ compensation reinstatement laws. without added financial risk, supporting both fair treatment of injured workers and responsible business practices.
