What's happening

This bill adds training on adverse childhood experiences, trauma understanding, and resiliency to child day care staff requirements.

Why it matters

  1. Expanding training to include adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) means child care staff will be better equipped to recognize signs of trauma in young children, potentially leading to earlier intervention and support for at-risk kids.

  2. By focusing on trauma understanding and nurturing resiliency, the bill encourages child care environments that are more sensitive to children’s emotional and psychological needs, not just their physical safety.

  3. This change could impact child care quality across the state, as it sets a higher standard for professional development and may influence how day care providers approach discipline, communication, and classroom management.
