What's happening

This bill requires all non-intersection pedestrian crosswalks and ramps in New York City to be clearly marked and painted.

Why it matters

  1. Improves pedestrian safety. by making non-intersection crosswalks and ramps much more visible, potentially reducing accidents and confusion for both drivers and walkers.

  2. Ensures consistency. in the appearance and maintenance of crosswalks across New York City, so residents and visitors can better predict where to cross safely.

  3. Applies to both new and existing infrastructure. , meaning the city will need to update current crosswalks and ramps as well as properly mark any that are built or reconstructed in the future.

  4. Could impact city budgets and planning. , as the city may need to allocate additional resources for regular maintenance, repainting, and compliance checks on non-intersection pedestrian pathways.
