What's happening

This bill extends the time limit to challenge New York City water board fees and charges from four to six years.

Why it matters

  1. Extending the challenge period from four to six years gives property owners and residents more time to discover and dispute billing errors or overcharges by the NYC Water Board, potentially increasing consumer protections.

  2. This change could increase the financial liability and administrative burden on the Water Board, as they may need to retain records and be prepared to address disputes for a longer period.

  3. By allowing a longer timeframe for challenges, the bill may encourage greater accountability and transparency in how water and sewerage fees are calculated and enforced, which could benefit both individuals and organizations using these services.
