What's happening

This bill requires the state budget to list proposed education appropriations by individual school district.

Why it matters

  1. Increases transparency. by requiring the governor’s budget to show, in detail, how much funding each individual school district is proposed to receive. This allows parents, educators, and taxpayers to see exactly where education dollars are being allocated.

  2. Empowers local communities. to better understand and advocate for their school district’s financial needs, since they will have clear, accessible data on proposed state support compared to other districts.

  3. Enables more informed debate and oversight. by legislators, education advocates, and the public, as they can easily identify disparities or trends in funding proposals and hold policymakers accountable for funding decisions.

  4. Could influence future education funding policy. by making inequities or shifts in appropriations more visible, potentially prompting policy changes or advocacy efforts to address gaps between districts.
