What's happening

This bill prohibits anyone from operating or riding a motorcycle with a child under age twelve on New York public roads.

Why it matters

  1. Directly addresses child safety. by preventing young children (under age twelve) from being passengers on motorcycles, which are statistically riskier vehicles in crashes, potentially reducing injury and fatality rates among children in the state.

  2. Creates clearer legal standards. for both motorcycle riders and law enforcement, eliminating ambiguity about what age is considered too young to ride as a passenger and making enforcement more straightforward.

  3. May impact families and motorcycle culture. by restricting certain family activities and traditions, forcing parents or guardians who ride motorcycles to find alternative transportation for younger children.
