What's happening
This bill doubles the maximum civil penalty for test agencies violating standardized testing laws from $1,000 to $2,000 per violation.
Why it matters
Increases the financial risk for test agencies. By doubling the maximum civil penalty per violation, the bill creates a stronger deterrent for test agencies, encouraging stricter compliance with standardized testing laws.
Potentially improves test integrity and consumer protection. Higher penalties may motivate test agencies to follow regulations more carefully, which could lead to fairer and more secure testing environments for students and other test-takers.
Signals heightened legislative concern. The amendment reflects a legislative priority to crack down on violations in standardized testing, possibly in response to past incidents or broader concerns about fairness and accountability in education.
