What's happening
This bill allows Westchester County to establish administrative hearings for code violations threatening public health, safety, or welfare.
Why it matters
Streamlines enforcement. By allowing Westchester County to set up administrative hearings for certain code violations, the bill could make it faster and easier for local authorities to address issues that pose a risk to public health or safety, rather than relying solely on the traditional court system.
Local control and flexibility. The bill gives Westchester County the option (but not the obligation) to create a process tailored to local needs, potentially leading to more effective and responsive enforcement of important public standards.
Potential for deterrence and compliance. A dedicated administrative process could increase the likelihood that violators are held accountable, which may encourage property owners and businesses to comply with health and safety codes, improving community well-being.
