What's happening
This bill allows parents and caretakers who work non-traditional hours to use child care assistance so they can sleep.
Why it matters
Addresses child safety and well-being. by ensuring that young children (under six, not in full-day school) are supervised when parents/caretakers need to sleep after working overnight or irregular hours, reducing risks associated with caregiver fatigue.
Supports working families with non-traditional schedules. (e.g., night shifts, early mornings), recognizing that many low-income or shift workers have unique challenges that typical child care assistance rules don’t cover.
Improves caregiver health and job performance. by allowing up to eight hours of sleep, which can reduce stress, support mental and physical health, and help parents/caretakers be more effective both at work and at home.
Promotes equity in access to child care support. , helping ensure that child care assistance programs meet the real-life needs of all eligible families, not just those working standard daytime hours.
