What's happening
This bill creates a free, statewide hotline to help New York farmers access information and resources for agricultural businesses.
Why it matters
Improves Access to Critical Support. By centralizing information about grants, research, marketing, and other agricultural resources, the hotline makes it easier for farmers to navigate complex government and private programs they might otherwise miss.
Supports New and Expanding Farms. The service specifically aims to assist both those starting farm businesses and those looking to grow, which could help revitalize rural economies and encourage entrepreneurship in agriculture.
Reduces Costs and Barriers. Providing the hotline for free removes a financial barrier, particularly benefiting small or struggling farms that might not have the resources to hire consultants or seek professional advice elsewhere.
Leverages Trusted Partnerships. The involvement of Cornell Cooperative Extension, a well-known agricultural resource in New York, increases the likelihood that callers will receive accurate, up-to-date, and practical guidance.
