The bill exempts manufacturers using residential recyclables to make new goods from the $10,000 per employee rebate limit.
Why it matters
Encourages local recycling-based manufacturing. by removing financial limits on rebates for companies that turn NYC residential recyclables into new products, potentially strengthening the city’s circular economy.
Increases incentives to use local recyclable materials. rather than importing raw materials, which may boost demand for city-run recycling programs and help reduce waste sent to landfills.
Could lead to more green jobs and economic activity. in the city’s manufacturing sector by making it more financially attractive for companies to invest in facilities that process local recyclables.
May set a precedent for targeted exemptions. in city policy, signaling legislative support for industries that contribute directly to urban sustainability and environmental goals.
