What's happening

This bill requires domestic violence and sexual assault awareness education for cosmetology professionals, expanding recognized advocacy groups involved in course development.

Why it matters

  1. Expands the range of advocacy groups. involved in developing training, allowing not just those recognized by the Department of Health and Human Services but also the Department of Justice, potentially bringing in more expertise and perspectives.

  2. Shifts language from singular to plural (“group” to “groups”). , which means multiple organizations can now contribute, likely increasing the quality and relevance of the educational materials used in training cosmetology professionals.

  3. Explicitly includes sexual assault (not just domestic violence) in both course content and advocacy group expertise. , making the education more comprehensive for professionals who may encounter clients at risk.

  4. May result in broader, more localized, and current resources. for licensees, as groups with the ability to coordinate both statewide and with local communities are emphasized, possibly leading to better prevention and intervention outcomes.
