What's happening
This resolution urges Governor Cuomo to proclaim September 18, 2020, as Brain Injury Awareness Day in New York State.
Why it matters
Raises public awareness about brain injuries. The resolution highlights the prevalence and severity of both traumatic and acquired brain injuries, which affect thousands of New Yorkers annually, emphasizing the importance of prevention, education, and early intervention.
Recognizes the support system for brain injury survivors. By honoring the Brain Injury Association of New York State and its 38 years of advocacy, the resolution draws attention to the vital role of support organizations for survivors and their families.
Underscores the lasting impact of brain injuries. With statistics on deaths, hospitalizations, and long-term disabilities, the resolution illustrates how brain injuries can have lifelong consequences for individuals and significant emotional and economic effects on families and communities.
Promotes statewide action and education. Encouraging the Governor to officially proclaim a Brain Injury Awareness Day could lead to increased public education initiatives, policy attention, and potentially more resources for prevention and support services.
