What's happening

This resolution congratulates the American Clergy Leadership Conference for hosting Celebration 2020, honoring religious leaders and key anniversaries.

Why it matters

  1. Highlights the influence of faith-based organizations. By recognizing the American Clergy Leadership Conference (ACLC), the resolution acknowledges the role that religious coalitions play in shaping community values, fostering moral leadership, and addressing social issues like family stability and community renewal.

  2. Brings attention to the Unification movement’s leaders. The resolution specifically honors Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon and the late Dr. Sun Myung Moon, whose religious and social initiatives have had significant—sometimes controversial—impact in both American and global contexts, thus spotlighting their ongoing legacy.

  3. Affirms interfaith unity and cooperation. By applauding the ACLC’s mission to unify clergy across denominations and backgrounds, the resolution underscores the importance of interreligious dialogue and collaboration in pursuing national and global peace.

  4. Signals support for religious diversity in public life. The resolution’s language and actions serve as a public affirmation of New York’s (and by extension, America’s) commitment to recognizing diverse faith traditions and their leaders, which may influence how religious organizations engage in civic and policy arenas.
