Senate Resolution No. 3068 BY: Senator MONTGOMERY HONORING Maria Roz Olatunji upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Caribbean Woman of the Year Award by the Neighborhood Technical Assistance Clinic on June 9, 2020 WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and WHEREAS, Maria Roz Olatunji has given not only of her time and energies but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has been designated for special honor; and WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Maria Roz Olatunji upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Caribbean Woman of the Year Award by the Neighborhood Technical Assistance Clinic to be celebrated at its 13th Annual Gala, A Salute to New York City's Nonprofits and the Neighborhoods They Serve, on Tuesday,

June 9, 2020, at Giando on the Water, Brooklyn, New York; and WHEREAS, The Neighborhood Technical Assistance Clinic (NTAC) is a strategic partner and advisor to philanthropists, foundations, government and political entities, public institutions, grassroots nonprofit organizations, and faith-based institutions wishing to improve their programs and organizational effectiveness in addressing the needs of low-income and service-starved communities; and WHEREAS, Born in Ottos, St. John's, Antigua and Barbuda Maria Roz Olatunji migrated to Brooklyn, New York in the late 1960s; and WHEREAS, Maria Roz Olatunji was educated at the Fashion Institute of Technology, Manhattan Community College and Queens College; and WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to her community, Maria Roz Olatunji has served on the Board of Directors of the Antigua & Barbuda Progressive, the oldest national organization in the tristate area, for the past 12 years; and WHEREAS, Furthermore, she has actively served the Ifetayo Cultural Academy, the Park Slope Food Coop and St. Paul's Court Tenant's Association; and WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individual for the benefit of others which Maria Roz Olatunji has displayed throughout her life; and WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to honor Maria Roz Olatunji upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Caribbean Woman of the Year Award by the Neighborhood Technical Assistance Clinic; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Maria Roz Olatunji.
