What's happening

This resolution celebrates the 2020 National Buffalo Wing Festival, highlighting its charitable impact and adaptation during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Why it matters

  1. Highlights the Festival’s Charitable Legacy. The resolution emphasizes that Wingfest has donated nearly $400,000 to local food charities over 19 years, illustrating how food festivals can have a sustained positive impact on hunger relief and community support.

  2. Adapts Tradition to Crisis. By shifting from a central Buffalo event to a decentralized, nationwide celebration due to COVID-19, the festival showcases how community traditions can be resilient and adaptable in the face of public health challenges.

  3. Encourages Local Economic Support. The new format urges participants across 50 cities to support their favorite local wing restaurants, directly aiding small businesses and the food service sector during a time of economic strain.

  4. Promotes Community Engagement and Philanthropy. The resolution encourages individuals and groups to not only celebrate but also organize charity efforts at a local level, reinforcing the connection between cultural events and grassroots philanthropy, especially critical during times of heightened need.
