What's happening

This resolution commends Fran Sexton-Conway, RN, for her dedicated service and special recognition by the First Presbyterian Church in Jamaica.

Why it matters

  1. Highlights the impact of sustained volunteerism in public health. By honoring Fran Sexton-Conway’s years of volunteer work at a community health fair, the resolution underscores how consistent dedication from healthcare professionals can significantly improve access to preventive medicine and screenings for underserved populations.

  2. Draws attention to the importance of community-based health initiatives. The resolution uses Sexton-Conway’s example to spotlight the value of grassroots events like the annual health fair, which offer free screenings and health education—often serving as a safety net for those without regular access to medical care.

  3. Recognizes the role of professional expertise in community service. By detailing Sexton-Conway’s medical credentials and her efforts to innovate within her field (such as accrediting a Vascular Lab and developing complementary care services), the resolution illustrates how professionals can leverage their training for broader community benefit.

  4. Celebrates the holistic contributions of individuals beyond their job titles. The resolution acknowledges not just Sexton-Conway’s nursing career but also her efforts in wellness (such as yoga instruction and therapy), suggesting that community recognition extends to those who promote health in diverse and integrative ways.
