What's happening

This resolution honors Robert Phoenix for being named Volunteer of the Year by The Food Pantries on April 16, 2019.

Why it matters

  1. Highlights the impact of long-term community service. By honoring Robert Phoenix, the resolution draws attention to the significance of sustained volunteerism—he’s volunteered since 1991—showcasing how ongoing commitment can shape and support essential local services like food pantries.

  2. Recognizes behind-the-scenes leadership. The resolution emphasizes Phoenix’s roles in recruiting and scheduling volunteers and aiding in pantry operations—tasks that are crucial for nonprofit success but often go unnoticed compared to more visible forms of volunteering.

  3. Sets a public example for civic engagement. By formally acknowledging Phoenix’s contributions and inscribing them into legislative records, the resolution aims to inspire others to engage in community service and demonstrates the value the state places on grassroots volunteer efforts.
