        COMMEMORATING the 200th Anniversary of the Steuben
        County Fair to be held August 13-18, 2019
 
  WHEREAS,  Fairs  and  festivals  empower  communities to attract new
visitors while capitalizing on local commercial and cultural value; and
 
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to  recognize  and
support events of significance which contribute to the entertainment and
vitality  of  the communities they serve and which exemplify the history
and development of the State of New York; and
 
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing  traditions,  this  Legislative  Body  is  justly proud to
commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the Steuben County Fair to be  held
August 13-18, 2019; and
 
  WHEREAS,  The  First  fair  was  held  in  1795,  which makes it the
original fair in New York State; a second fair was  held  in  1796;  the
next fair was held in 1819, and has been held every year since; and
 
  WHEREAS,  The  agricultural society was formed in 1841, and formally
organized in 1854; and
 
  WHEREAS, The fair leased the property in  1845  where  the  fair  is
currently held, and later purchased it in 1862; and
 
  WHEREAS,  The first buildings were also built in 1862, including The
"Fair House" and the "Gate House";  both  buildings  are  still  in  use
today; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Today,  the  Steuben  County Fair continues to serve as an
extraordinary attraction, bringing thousands of people each year to  see
what it has to offer; and
 
  WHEREAS,  It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those organizations that have brought entertainment and cultural
enrichment to the citizens of the State of New York; now, therefore,  be
it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the Steuben County Fair to be  held
August 13-18, 2019; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of  the Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted  to  Nick  Pelham  CVFM  Secretary/Manager,  Steuben  County
Agricultural Society.
