What's happening

This resolution urges the Governor to proclaim April 2020 as Pet Cruelty Awareness Month in New York State.

Why it matters

  1. Raises the profile of pet cruelty as a public issue. By urging an official proclamation, the resolution seeks to make pet cruelty more visible and encourage broader discussion and education about the topic.

  2. Promotes community involvement in prevention and reporting. The resolution highlights the importance of residents recognizing and reporting signs of animal cruelty, emphasizing collective responsibility for animal welfare.

  3. Aligns New York with national efforts and advocacy. Linking the state’s observance to National Animal Cruelty Awareness Month and campaigns like the ASPCA’s “Go Orange for Animals” connects local actions to nationwide movements, potentially increasing impact and resources.

  4. Encourages policy and cultural change. By calling for greater public awareness and increased activity at all levels, the resolution aims to spur not just awareness but also concrete actions from individuals, communities, and government to protect animals.
