What's happening
This bill authorizes the issuance of special "Fire Police" license plates to fire police members and their spouses in New York.
Why it matters
Recognizes and honors fire police and their spouses. by allowing them a special license plate, visibly acknowledging their service and potentially increasing community awareness of their role.
Limits issuance to one plate per household. (either the fire police member or their spouse, but not both), which helps prevent misuse and keeps the program manageable.
Requires proof of eligibility. (membership in the fire police or being a spouse), ensuring that only those with a legitimate connection receive the plates.
Mandates cost recovery for the state. by charging a $10 one-time service fee and only issuing the plates if enough people request them to cover design and manufacturing expenses, protecting taxpayers from subsidizing the program.
