What's happening
This bill extends the authority for Greenburgh and specified villages to impose a hotel/motel occupancy tax until September 1, 2022.
Why it matters
Continued Local Revenue Generation. By extending the hotel/motel occupancy tax authorization, the bill allows Greenburgh and certain villages to keep collecting revenue from visitors, which can support public services and infrastructure without raising property taxes for residents.
Tourism Impact. The extension may affect hotel and motel pricing, potentially influencing visitors’ choices and local tourism dynamics. It ensures local governments can continue to benefit financially from non-resident travel and stays.
Stability for Local Planning. By providing a clear timeframe (until September 1, 2022), the bill gives municipalities and businesses predictability for budgeting and planning, avoiding sudden changes in tax policy that could disrupt local projects or operations.
