AN ACT to amend the criminal procedure law, in relation to granting police officer status to certain employees of the Triborough bridge and tunnel authority; and to repeal certain provisions of such law relating thereto
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:
Section 1. Subdivision 34 of section 1.20 of the criminal procedure law is amended by adding a new paragraph (w) to read as follows:
(w) Bridge and tunnel officers, sergeants and lieutenants of the Triborough bridge and tunnel authority.
§ 2. Subdivision 20 of section 2.10 of the criminal procedure law is REPEALED.
§ 3. This act shall take effect immediately.

To grant officers, sergeants and lieutenants of the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority police officer status.
Summary of provisions
Section one amends Subdivision 34 of Section 1.20 of the Criminal Proce- dure Law by adding a new paragraph to grant officers, sergeants and lieutenants of the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority police officer status.
Section two repeals Subdivision 20 of Section 2.10 of the Criminal Procedure Law, which currently classifies officers, sergeants and lieu- tenants of the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority as peace officers.
Section three provides that this act shall take effect immediately.
Existing law
Currently, the officers, sergeants and lieutenants of the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority maintain peace officer status.
Justification
The officers, sergeants and lieutenants of the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority service the largest bridge and tunnel toll agency in the United States. The 2017 Metropolitan Transportation Authority's Annual Disclosure Statement Update credits the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority as serving more than a million people each day and as generating more than $1.9 billion in toll revenue annually.
The officers, sergeants and lieutenants of the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority already perform a wide variety of law enforcement func- tions such as testifying in courtor at administravive hearings, communi- cating with law enforcement officials, responding e ergencies, issuing summonses, making arrests and performing patrols.
The Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority keep millions of New Yorkers safe by acting as a supplemental body to the police officers in New York State at all times. With more than five hundred members, the officers, sergeants and lieutenants of the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority deserve to be classified as police officers.
