What's happening
This bill updates how the Volunteer Exempt Firefighter's Benevolent Association of Whitehall can use foreign fire insurance premium tax funds, allowing broader use in line with its stated purposes.
Why it matters
Expands eligible uses of foreign fire insurance tax funds. so the association can spend these funds on any purpose outlined in its founding charter (section three of the act), rather than limiting spending solely to relief for disabled or indigent firefighters and their families.
Provides the association with greater flexibility. to address broader needs, such as member welfare, equipment, facilities, or community support, as long as these are consistent with its stated purposes.
Aligns the association’s use of funds with its mission. , allowing it to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities of its members, rather than being strictly bound to traditional relief activities.
May increase transparency and accountability. , since expenditures must now align specifically with the association's declared goals, which are publicly established in its charter.
