What's happening
This bill removes the funding cap for teacher resource and computer training centers in New York City schools.
Why it matters
Removes the cap on funding specifically for New York City’s teacher resource and computer training centers. , allowing them to potentially receive more support than previously allowed by state law.
Could allow NYC to expand or enhance teacher professional development programs. , particularly in areas of technology integration and instructional resources, which may help address challenges unique to the city’s large and diverse school system.
May lead to greater equity among teacher centers statewide. , as other districts still have individual per-center caps, but NYC’s removal of the limit means potential for increased investment where student and teacher populations are highest.
Signals legislative recognition of the scale and complexity of NYC’s educational needs. , possibly setting a precedent for future funding policies for large urban districts.

Title of bill
An act to amend the education law, in relation to funds for teacher resource and computer training centers
Purpose or general idea of bill
The purpose of this bill is to make more equitable the funding mechanism for the Teacher Resource and Computer Training Centers.
Summary of specific provisions
Section 1 amends the Education Law, pertaining to the Teacher Resource and Computer Training Centers by removing the statutory language that places a cap on the amount of funds New York City public schools are eligible to receive.
Justification
The Teacher Resource and Computer Training Centers were established by the Legislature in 1984 to provide teachers with professional develop- ment services that would increase their general knowledge of current educational materials and techniques to facilitate enhanced teacher performance. This legislation would remove the cap that unfairly limits the distribution of these funds.
